Utility worker rescued after becoming trapped in hole in Fort Lauderdale

Crews came to the rescue of a utility worker who became briefly trapped in a muddy hole at a site in Fort Lauderdale.Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene of the incident along Northwest 12th Place, Thursday afternoon.The victim, a city of Fort Lauderdale employee, was working on installing new pipes underground when he fell into the hole and became stuck from the waist down.“As our crews arrived, we found the worker trapped about waist deep in mud and water from an active hole,” said a FLFR Executive Chief Garret Pingol. “We’re not sure of the dynamics, exactly how he became trapped as of yet, whether he sunk into the hole or there was some small collapse around him.”After about 15 minutes, the man was freed, covered in mud and water but OK.“Things happen with the work,” he said after he was pulled to safety.“Luckily they were following their procedures. FBI searching for armed bank robber in Hollywood

The FBI is on the lookout for a robber on the run in Hollywood.Surveillance pictures show the bandit entering a PNC bank on Tyler Street and North 19th Avenue, Wednesday afternoon.Authorities said the robber flashed a weapon, demanded money from a teller, then ran off.No shots were fired and no one was hurt.The amount of money taken has not been released at this time.

WASHINGTON — Companies benefitting from the United States’ $369 billion Inflation Reduction Act may be required to notify their subsidies to the European Union’s antitrust enforcers under new EU rules, the bloc’s competition boss Margrethe Vestager said Thursday.Speaking to reporters in Washington, Vestager said that with the EU’s new foreign subsidies regulation, “it is conceivable that subsidies that are given in the United States will be relevant to notify in the EU,” as part of Washington’s huge green subsidy package.  The foreign subsidies regulation gives Brussels powers to screen investments, takeovers or bids funded by foreign states. Suspect accused of kicking teen into T station pit, stabbing man in Whitman appears in court

23-year-old Kedrian Perry Marshall appeared in court Thursday in connection with accusations that he kicked a 16-year-old boy into the pit of the State Street T station on Tuesday. Marshall has been charged with attempted murder for the incident on the T platform.
