Accused carjackers face additional charges in federal court

ST. LOUIS – Two East St. Louis men indicted in December 2022 in connection with a Soulard carjacking have been accused of additional crimes. Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Quinn Turner, 21, and Jaylen Mays, 25, appeared in court on Wednesday on a superseding indictment.Turner pleaded not guilty to two counts of carjacking and two counts of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. Mays pleaded not guilty to three counts of carjacking, three counts of brandishing a firearm, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.Prosecutors claim Mays and others stole a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu on Nov. 5, 2022, while brandishing a weapon. CLEVELAND — Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez has apparently re-injured his right arm.The right-hander departed Wednesday afternoon’s game against the Guardians with two outs in the fourth inning, crouching on the mound in pain and frustration. Marquez was making his first start since coming off the 15-day injured list where he was being treated for right forearm inflammation.Marquez, 28, had tests done on his right arm and elbow and those tests showed no structural damage. In recent days, Marquez insisted that his arm felt good. Police release surveillance video in fatal Highland Park hit-and-run

Police on Wednesday released new surveillance video of a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Highland Park last month amid the ongoing search for the driver.The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. March 17 in the 5600 block of Aldama Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.The victim, a 65-year-old woman, was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe described as possibly being blue.The speeding driver did not stop to help the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.Neighbors told KTLA at the time that the victim lived on the street and went on daily walks. OAKLAND — A man found dead Wednesday morning in a doorway to a vacant Chinatown business had major trauma to his body, and the death is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said.Authorities are trying to identify the man, who might be unhoused.An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.The man was found dead about 7:33 a.m. in the doorway to a vacant business in the 300 block of Tenth Street at Harrison Street.The man may have been sleeping in the doorway when he was attacked, as numerous pieces of cardboard that he may have been lying on or using for warmth could be seen at the site.
