MDPD arrest man involved in hit-and-run after leaving 1 dead

The Miami-Dade Police Department arrested a man accused of leaving the scene of a crash after he hit a pedestrian with his car. Police said on Monday night, Donaldo Pineda was heading north on Northwest 17th Avenue in his Dodge Ram truck when he hit a pedestrian walking on the road in the same direction. Pineda slowed down but continued to flee the scene. Authorities said he did not call 911 after he left the area. The victim was pronounced dead by a medical professional at Jackson Memorial Hospital that same night.Detectives investigated the suspect’s vehicle on Wednesday and found that his bumper grill was recently replaced. Further inspection of Pineda’s property revealed the old bumper that had apparent damages consistent with having struck the victim. Police later impounded his vehicle as evidence and interviewed the suspect at the police department’s homicide bureau where he confessed to the crime. The trial for Scot Peterson, a former school resource officer accused of failing to protect students during the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, continued. EU executive to block Huawei from its contracts

The European Commission announced moves on Thursday to block the Chinese firms Huawei and ZTE from EU research funding and stop contracting operators using Chinese equipment.The EU executive and member countries’ cybersecurity experts presented a report reviewing its 5G Security Toolbox, a 2020 plan endorsed by national governments to decrease the reliance on Chinese telecoms equipment makers.Chinese suppliers Huawei and ZTE pose “materially higher risks than other 5G suppliers,” the Commission said in a statement.
