Editor’s Note: The video above shows KXAN News Today’s top headlines for March 30, 2023.AUSTIN (KXAN) — After an investigation that took longer than a year, the Office of the City Auditor in Austin said it found Central Texas Allied Health Institute (CTAHI), a nonprofit City of Austin contractor, committed fraud against Austin Public Health and falsified health records. According to the investigative report, CTAHI misrepresented over $1.1 million in financial transactions across three contracts with Austin Public Health and was incorrectly paid roughly $417,000 between December 2020 and September 2021 because of fraudulent contract claims. Daniel Perry, an Army sergeant and part-time Uber driver, was indicted in the case in 2021 on felony charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge of deadly conduct. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Since 2006, Austin children have transported into the world of Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" series at Camp Half-Blood Austin. Now, camp officials are working to continue bringing the books' fantasy adventures to life, fundraising to keep the summer camp operating.CHBA aims to bring to life the "Percy Jackson" books to help instill a love for reading, as well as create an outlet for kids to act out adventures from the series. City recruiting members for new pilot program to help prevent people from being evicted from their homes

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The City of Austin Housing Department is recruiting community members who want to serve as Displacement Prevention Navigators to help prevent people from being evicted or foreclosed on, according to a news release from the city.The one-year pilot program will focus on two neighborhoods at high risk of displacement, which is Colony Park and Dove Springs, the release said. Compared to Austin as a whole, the pilot neighborhoods have higher shares of cost-burdened residents, as well as residents who have lived in their homes for more than 20 years.“The Displacement Prevention Navigator pilot program is urgently needed,” said District 2 Austin Council Member Vanessa Fuentes. “People are our city’s biggest strength—but many people are finding it harder to live here as Austin becomes less affordable. Unfortunately, on the same day, police explain Schenectady High School experienced a real threat. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Schenectady police report that on March 30, around 11 a.m., officers assigned to Schenectady High School were alerted by staff that a student's family member was on campus and threated to "shoot up the school." Police explain the male left campus and was located a short time later. The individual was identified as Zackery McWilliams, 24 of Schenectady. He was arrested and charged with making a terroristic threat. McWilliams will be arraigned on March 30 in Schenectady City Court.

Task Force on School Safety releases final report

ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- School safety is on the minds of many, after a deadly school shooting in Nashville and false reports of shootings at multiple New York school districts. The Assembly Minority updated New Yorkers on the latest from the Task Force on School Safety and Security. The task force has met up a total of six times, you can find their report here.
