FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Jamal Shead had 16 points and nine assists as top-ranked Houston advanced to its fifth American Athletic Conference championship game in a row with a 69-48 win over Cincinnati on Saturday, even after losing star guard Marcus Sasser to an injury. The Cougars (31-2) led throughout, getting two second-chance layups from J’Wan Roberts in the opening minute of a game between two teams that are moving to the Big 12 next season. Roberts finished with 16 points and eight rebounds.Sasser, the AAC player of the year who scored 30 points in Houston’s quarterfinals win on Friday, crumpled with an apparent groin injury with about 6 1/2 minutes left in the first half. GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KDVR) -- The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado Friday said Michael Tracy McFadden, 51, of Grand Junction, was sentenced to life in federal prison on March 6. McFadden was "convicted of crossing state lines with intent to engage in a sexual act with a minor under the age of 12, and transportation of a minor with intent to engage in sexual activity," the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado said in a release. McFadden was found guilty of the charges after two victims testified at his trial in November last year. The trial lasted five days before the jury made a decision on the case. (CNN) — Longtime Minnesota Vikings coach Bud Grant died Saturday at 95, the “absolutely heartbroken” team said in a statement.“We, like all Vikings and NFL fans, are shocked and saddened by this terrible news,” the statement said.Grant coached the Vikings for 18 seasons from 1967 through 1983 and again in 1985. He was the engineer of the Vikings vaunted “Purple People Eaters” defense that won 10 division crowns in 11 seasons starting in 1968.Grant led the Vikings to four Super Bowls, though his team never won. MBTA needs more money for federal safety compliance

The department head tasked with overseeing compliance of federal safety directives said the MBTA needs more money than the $378 million allocated for that purpose through last year’s state budget.The T spent $90.9 million of those one-time state funds by the end of the second quarter in December, to address eight special directives issued as part of the Federal Transit Administration’s safety management inspection, said Katie Choe, chief of quality, compliance and oversight.“I think we will need more, but I can’t tell you how much more and it does depend on where we draw the box,” Choe said Thursday at a safety subcommittee meeting. “For instance, are we going to say all track maintenance that we do moving forward qualifies as an FTA special directive response, or is it only certain things?“So, there’s some element of figuring out what we want to consider a qualifying expense for FTA special directive response, versus sort of standard business for the MBTA.”According to Choe’s prese...
