Here are new records set during the heat wave in Southern California

Areas across Southern California are seeing record-high temperatures due to the heatwave that began scorching the region late last week. Locations that set records on Sunday include Lancaster Airport, where the 110 degrees recorded there was hot enough to eclipse the record of 109 degrees set in 1960, and Sandberg, California, where the quarter-century old record of 98 degrees was beaten by Sunday’s high of 99. Additionally, Idyllwild, California in Riverside County reached 100 degrees for the first time in the community’s history; their previous record high was 97 degrees in 2003. Big Bear tied its record high of 90 degrees, which has now been done on five separate occasions: 1960, 1972, 1998, 2005 and 2023. Campo, California – a city in San Diego County located near the United States-Mexico border – tied its record high of 106 degrees, which was set in 2006.  Soccer fans take over Pacoima intersection following Mexico’s Gold Cup win Dangerously hot tempe...

81-Year-Old Woman Injured in Single-Vehicle Collision near 22nd Avenue SoutheastPUYALLUP, WA (July 17, 2023) – Early Thursday morning, a driver was arrested after crashing into a woman’s home on 23rd Street Southeast.The incident occurred just after 5:50 a.m., near 22nd Avenue Southeast on July 13th.Per reports, the driver of a black Hyundai veered off the road and crashed into the bedroom of an 81-year-old woman.Investigators say the driver was heading east on 23rd Avenue SE and lost consciousness. MENLO PARK — Two men in their 20s are facing several felony charges, including sexual assault and possession of child pornography, after using a Snapchat account with a fake name and outdated photos to convince a 16-year-old girl to meet, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.The alleged assaults took place in April of last year, when Menlo Park resident Sergio Caudillo Leon, 27, contacted the teen on Snapchat, authorities said. Leon picked the girl up at her San Jose home at 11 p.m. on April 6, according to the DA’s office, and told her to disable her phone’s location services, leaving her unable to be tracked online through the device.On their way to Leon’s home, they picked up 24-year-old Kevin Bladimir Cruz in East Palo Alto. OAKLAND — Seventeen months after he was arrested and charged with murder, an Oakland man was freed from jail when a judge determined there wasn’t ample evidence against him, court records show.Christopher Hunt, 37, was originally charged in the September 2021 shooting of 41-year-old Kanawa Long, of Hayward, based on eyewitness statements and video surveillance showing a Volvo speeding away from the homicide. But after Hunt’s preliminary hearing, Judge Kevin Murphy found prosecutors had failed to reach the low bar of probable cause required to advance the case further.Murphy’s ruling was made in February but has not been previously reported.
