NEW YORK — Shares were mostly lower in Asia on Wednesday after a decline on Wall Street as traders returned from a long holiday weekend. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index advanced but most other regional markets fell. Crude oil prices pushed higher, adding to inflationary pressures at a time when investors are hoping to see central banks back away from interest rate hikes. “While oil bulls are dancing in the street, the notable price uptick could prove challenging for central banks and financial markets, which were embellishing the current lower inflation groove,” Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management said in a commentary.Coming off the Labor Day holiday in the U.S., investors have few economic reports to look forward to this week, while the latest round of corporate earnings is essentially finished.Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 advanced 0.7% to 33,262.48. Suspect indicted on attempted murder charge in explosives attack on Japan’s Kishida, report says

TOKYO (AP) — Prosecutors in Japan indicted a 24-year-old man Wednesday on attempted murder and other charges in the explosive attack on Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in April, Japanese media reported.Kishida was campaigning for elections in Wakayama in western Japan when a man threw a homemade pipe bomb at him. Kishida was unhurt, but two others had minor injuries. After a three-month psychiatric evaluation of the suspect, prosecutors determined that Ryuji Kimura, 24, is mentally fit for trial and that the bomb used in the attack was lethal, Japan’s Kyodo news agency reported. Kyodo reported that court records show Kimura may have been angry because he couldn’t file for candidacy in elections last year.The attack came about a year after former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot and killed while campaigning for elections. Toronto police say a child has died, and another person was injured in a stabbing at a Scarborough residence on Tuesday.Officers were called to the Dundalk Drive and Antrim Crescent area around 6:30 p.m. for reports of an unknown trouble.Police later confirmed a stabbing had occurred at an apartment.Two people were assessed for injuries at the scene, and police tell CityNews that a young victim has died.There is a heavy police presence in the area. Police offer warning after man attempts to lure teen in Ashburn

CHICAGO — Police are offering a warning to the public after a man allegedly attempted to lure a teen girl into his car in Chicago's Ashburn neighborhood. According to police, it happened in the 8300 block of South Hamlin Street at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.  Man attempts to lure kids into car in Bridgeport Police say a 13-year-old girl was walking down the sidewalk in the area when a man drove up in a white two-door car, tried to engage her in conversation, and asked her to get inside of his car. Police say the girl immediately walked away from the car and the driver fled the scene traveling northbound on South Hamlin Street. According to police, the man, who is believed to be between 30 and 40 years of age, had black hair and was wearing a white tank top. Texas DPS driver license appointments canceled through Wednesday morning due to system outage

TEXAS (KXAN) — An outage in the Texas Department of Public Safety's driver license system led to cancellations of all driver license appointments through Wednesday morning until noon, a news release confirmed Tuesday.According to DPS, all appointments between 7:30 a.m. and noon Wednesday were canceled statewide, and customers are being notified of the cancellation via email or phone number used when creating their appointment.Driver's license offices across the state closed Friday through Labor Day weekend for a system update, DPS said previously."The department is working to identify the issue, which is related to the driver's license system update that took place over the weekend, and get it fixed as quickly as possible. DES PERES, Mo. – The leashes were not on for long at The Lodge Aquatic Center in Des Peres, as dogs of all shapes and sizes took to the outdoor pool."It's a lot of fun to see the dogs get in,” said Dylan Thomas, Lodge Des Peres.Every year, area pools end the summer pool season with a doggy swim filled with tennis balls, dog floaties, and the occasional uncontrollable bark of joy."After we close it up, we have the dogs come in for an enjoyable swim,” Thomas said.It was $10 per dog parent at The Lodge Outdoor Pool Tuesday.
