CHICAGO — Cook County is launching a new program to bring mental health professionals to people in public housing.Over the past few months, political conversations have merged with mental health conversations. (The Hill) -- Many types of soft contact lenses available in the U.S. could contain toxic “forever chemicals,” new research has found.All 18 sets of soft contacts evaluated in a recent consumer study came back with various levels of organic fluorine — an indicator for the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The 18 sets, from three major brands, were sent to a laboratory certified by the Environmental Protection Agency by the Mamavation eco-wellness website, to determine just how much of this PFAS building block was present in each product.“Your eyes are one of the most sensitive parts of your body,” Linda Birnbaum, former director of the National Institute of Environmental Health and the National Toxicology Program, said in a statement.“Therefore, it’s concerning to see the presence of organic fluorine, which is likely a type of PFAS, found in all soft contact lens products tested,” Birnbaum added. Gator found in Central Texas ditch: sheriff video

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A scaley visitor was spotted in Central Texas this week. A gator was found in a ditch Monday near La Grange in Fayette County, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. It was spotted on FM 2145 near Citzler Road."The rain has definitely washed in some things you don’t see every day in Fayette County!" the sheriff's office said on Facebook. Texas Parks and Wildlife relocated the gator, the post said. How common are gators in Texas? Alligators have lived in Texas marshes, swamps, rivers and lakes for centuries, according to TPWD. Investigations continue into fatal fire in Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Fire investigators and law enforcement are investigating a fatal fire that broke out in the second-floor apartment of 42 Stewart Street. David L. Crandall, 43, who was a resident of the apartment succumbed to the fire. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! The fire reportedly broke out on Monday evening. The Amsterdam Fire Department and Amsterdam Police Department responded. Firefighters began to douse the flames while police managed the scene and interviewed witnesses. One witness told police that he was a resident of the second-floor apartment and that his roommate was still inside. Fire personnel located Crandall inside the apartment but Crandall had passed away.Investigations are ongoing but the cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious. At this time, it is believed that the fire started on the second-floor porch and spread to the inside of the apartment.
